This work is available in print as The Universal Core of Ethics, a numbered series published independently under the pen name Curtis Atwell. All five volumes are in print. Each is listed below in series order.

Volume 1 — The Deconstruction of Christianity

A Systematic Case, Honestly Bounded

The author was born to Independent Fundamentalist Baptist missionaries, converted formally at sixteen, trained at Tennessee Temple, was ordained, and pastored a small Midwestern church for just under twenty years. For years he read the Bible cover to cover every sixty days — in several translations, and painstakingly in the original. One of those readings he undertook while taking notes on every passage touching on ethics. That was the reading that ended his faith, and this book is the accounting he owed himself afterward.

Its discipline is the whole point. Every argument is stated plainly, met with the strongest defense a serious scholar gives it, and only then answered — each carrying a verdict that names exactly what it does and does not overturn, and a strength rating from one to five. Nine chapters move from text and authorship through comparative origins, history and archaeology, the sciences, the ethical case, philosophical objections, natural theology, and the sophisticated theist, closing on what remains standing. Four appendices follow, including an annotated reading list and the full claim database. The governing rule throughout is a refusal to claim more than the evidence gives.

Volume 2 — The Triad of Stewardship: Foundations

Foundations of the Universal Core of Ethics, the CRES Framework, and the Coherence Imperative

The main body of the research, in one printed volume. Its parts carry the framework from its origin to its furthest application: the UCE Foundations, with the discovery, the twenty-three traditions, the priority hierarchy and the intra-mandate bylaws; Sojournism, the personal practice built on them; CRES, the institutional diagnostic, with twenty-three historical case studies of how societies decay and recover; Grey Zone Ethics, on moral fidelity amid collapse and reconstruction; the Mandates of Conflict; and the Coherence Imperative, the framework offered as an alignment target for artificial intelligence.

It is careful about what it claims. The introduction sets out the epistemic status of the work plainly — one researcher surveying twenty-three traditions is a hypothesis, not a finding — and includes a standing invitation to independent verification. A canonical reference table closes the first part.

Volume 3 — The Topography of Conscience

From 42 Principles to a High-Resolution Map of Human Ethical Consensus

Forty-two principles produce 861 possible interactions. Most ethical systems never examine them — they state their principles, gesture at a hierarchy, and leave the interior unmapped. That interior is where every real dilemma lives. This volume walks all 861 intersections across nine auditable phases: the 126 intra-mandate pairs stress-tested first, then all 735 cross-mandate pairs, each classified as compound, tension, redundancy, or void, weighed against all twenty-three traditions and resolved into twenty-four conditional virtues, each with its operative conditions specified.

What distinguishes it is what it refuses to resolve. The book maps its own void zones — the places where the traditions genuinely disagree and the framework has no answer yet — and records the methodological choices it considered and rejected, with reasons. “A framework that cannot say where it fails cannot be trusted where it succeeds.” Closing sections give the formalization: a vector-and-rule hybrid, a lexicographic hard floor for Mandate I, an interaction tensor, threshold logic and decision gates, and an audit trace showing which principles fired to produce a given result — the layer relevant to machine implementation.

This is the machinery beneath the framework rather than an entry point to it. Readers coming to the UCE for the first time should begin with Volume 2, Foundations.
