The Triad of Stewardship: The Third Tier — Resolution Power

What This Volume Is

Any ethical framework can state its principles. The harder question is what happens when the principles collide — when protecting one person requires constraining another, when honesty threatens safety, when institutional stewardship conflicts with individual autonomy. Resolution Power is the framework's answer: a phase-by-phase engineering pass over the entire UCE that stress-tests every Mandate against every other, maps the intersections, resolves the tensions, and names the results — so that when principles conflict in the real world, the resolution is principled rather than improvised.

The volume opens with an executive summary of resolution power and closes with a special appendix on the known edges of the framework — the places where the architecture acknowledges its own limits.

The Structure of the Volume

• Phase 0 — Canonical Reference Table: the fixed baseline of six Mandates and forty-two Principles against which everything else is tested.
• Phases 1–2 — Intra-Mandate Stress Test: testing each Mandate's principles against each other for internal coherence.
• Phase 2.5 — Principle Boundary Resolution: settling where one principle ends and its neighbor begins.
• Phase 3 — Cross-Mandate Intersection Mapping: charting every point where the territories of two Mandates overlap.
• Phase 4 — First-Pass Sorting: the initial classification of intersections into resolved, tense, and void.
• Phase 5 — Tradition Sifting: List A candidate virtues drawn from the source traditions to fill identified gaps.
• Phase 6 — Tension Resolution: the resolution of the remaining genuine conflicts, with an architectural amendment deriving the Tension Resolution Rules from the framework's own internal logic.
• Phase 7 — Void Zone Analysis: the honest inventory of what the framework does not cover.
• Phase 8 — Tier 3 Vocabulary: the naming and canonization of the resolved architecture.
• Phase 9 — Resolution Power Testing: the final validation pass — does the completed structure actually resolve the cases it claims to resolve?
• Formalization Strategy: a vector-and-rule hybrid making the framework machine-readable for AI-alignment applications.
